    • For you, I bought a suit and a tie - 02/07/05 - The Greg

      Hi everybody!

We, as you’ve no doubt noticed, have been on a hiatus. This stupid school thing has been a real bear to contend with. So please stay tuned here for more info regarding The Girls and The Girls-related info.

Now some sad news: Our esteemed lead-guitar/singer/songwriter Tyson “Con-Air” Schrader has decided to move on to other artistic outlets (i.e. play writing, poetry, sword swallowing) and is no longer going to be a part of The Girls' line up. You might still be able to catch that patented Tysound with the Anderson Council on Feb. 18 (We’ll keep you informed re: that). We wish him the best in his new endeavors, and look forward to bothering him for money in about six years.

Keep checking back here as we slowly go through our vast archives for new (finally!) Featured Songs.

      Cheers,
      Greg

    • An Explanation of Absence - 01/07/04 - Ben

In case any of you were wondering, the site has been pretty static because of finals and winter break here at CMU. Don't worry - in less than a week we'll be back together, defrosting our equipment for a new run of shows.

    • And bring your jukebox money! - 10/28/03 - Ram

Sorry, but I'll try to make that the end of the Love Shack/Habishack jokes. But not to worry, we WILL be playing at Habitat for Humanity's Habishack down at the Fence. Come by to support HfH's efforts and hear some funtime rock and/or roll music with the Girls!

    • Hey, you know what was great? - 10/10/03 - Ram

Remember that time I told you to come to the show on the 17th because Zox is really cool? And you came and had a great time and even bought a CD? And you brought all your friends? And then you got a brand new puppy and lived happily ever after? Man, those were the days. I long for those innocent times again. Boy, wouldn't it be great if October 17th, 2003 hadn't happened yet and there was still time to see that show I was just talking about?

    • We've Got CDs Again - 10/02/03 - Ben

Hey everybody, quick note - we got another box of CDs, so if you were wanting one, come find us, or order it online from this site, or come to our show on the 17th with Zox at the Underground.

    • THE SHOW HAS MOVED! - 09/10/03 - Ben

    • Friday Friday Friday! - 09/08/03 - Ram

Listen up, cats and kittens, and listen up but good. Anyone not at the show listed on our right is officially not our friend. Ever. There's no hope. So put down the latest issue of the Tartan with our interview in it, put on your dancing shoes and top hat, and come on down to the Underground Friday night to see us and our friends Quickly Crimson rocking your heads to the back of the room. Oh, and while you're there, please by a CD -- oh, do, do!

    • How do you like the new digs? - 08/06/03 - Ben

You might have noticed a slight change in The Girls' website. That's right, we've put the pink hearts in storage and rolled out an all-new, all-orange design. This new site features a lot more content, and better yet, a lot more space for us to put new stuff! If you check in on the site pretty often, you'll get to see some of the fun things I'll be adding over the next couple weeks (including some easter eggs). But now, explore the new site, listen to the Featured Song (it changes every Friday!) and buy our new album and a couple stickers from the online store. Enjoy!

  • July 2003

    • It's time. . . - 07/16/03 - Ram

Time to buy Seraphim & Saccharine before it's too late. They're $5 if you buy them from one of us, and will be $8 in the new online store that will be going up as soon as the new site is up. It's an exciting time to be a Girl, and lucky for you, it's an exciting time to like the Girls, too.

  • June 2003

    • Seraphim & Saccharine coming soon - 06/17/03 - Ben

That's right, we're sending out the master CD for Seraphim & Saccharine, our new album, next morning. After that it'll be a week or so before we get them back, then everything goes crazy. New website, new merchandise, new CD, new demo. New everything. It's gonna be a great year.

  • April 2003

    • Ugh. - 04/09/03 - Ben

Seriously, now. I promise the mailing list signup works now. Also, we have a 11-track CD coming out soon. Not like you came here to hear about 11 studio-recorded tracks that we've been mixing and mastering for weeks and will finally produce in beautiful packages to be relased upon the masses. No. You want to hear how my server's been giving me headaches for those same weeks, prohibiting you from subscribing to Ram's flood of love mail. Well, fear not. I will not mention the CD at all, and I will assure you once more that the system is NOT down.

  • March 2003

    • Sorry about that... - 03/18/03 - Ben

Continuing server troubles have messed up the mailing list signup for a while... I think I've got things fixed to the point where you can actually sign up for the list now. If you signed up for the list since, oh, say January, please sign up again just to be sure. Thanks!

    • What Happen!?!? - 03/07/03 - Ben

Well, you'll notice that news is missing a few posts, and the site was down for a while. Well, the server died, and I didn't have a very recent backup of the news database, so there you go. Also, if you signed up for the mailing list in the last month, you should probably sign up again. Nothing else really affected though. Go about your business.

  • January 2003

    • Directions to Rea Coffeehouse - 01/15/03 - Ben

OK, so you go down Fifth Avenue from CMU/Pitt/Whatever, away from the city. Keep going and you'll see a sign for Chatham College and a little road. I think it's called Woodland Rd. Anyway, go up that road a ways, and you'll get to a little crossroad. On the left is Rea House. The venue is behind Rea House, in the basement. Really. There should be some parking around behind Rea House too. Hope that helps, and I hope everyone in the world shows up.

    • And a happy new year - 01/13/03 - Ram

Good news. Not seven days after returning to school, and the Girls are ready to rock some socks. If the socks are alright with it, of course. Check out our new moves at the Rea Coffehouse on Saturday, the 18th of January, at 7:00 sharp. Watch the tremendous Tyson Schrader stun you with the beauty of his acoustic magic. See the cataclysmic Clayton-Merrell rock you clear into next week. And, finally, see the grandiose, graceful, gratuitous, and glowing Girls play sweet melodies and . . . well. . . whatever. Just come. Directions from CMU are in a forthcoming post.

    • The Best Octoberween Ever! - 10/21/02 - Ben

So yeah, welcome back! News for the month: Halloween is approaching, and what could that mean but a Women@SCS costume party! It's 7:00-10:00PM on Friday, October 25th in the Newell-Simon atrium, on CMU campus. We'll be performing with another CMU band called Underscore. Everyone's invited, so don a costume (or just go as yourself - you're terrifying) and come see us play!

    • Aftermath of Battle of the Bands - 09/26/02 - Ben

The Battle of the Bands went really well - all the bands were great, and The Clayton Merrell took home the first prize. Congratulations to all who played. In Girls news, we're going to be playing the Women@SCS picnic on Oct. 25, so if you're a woman at SCS, or you know a woman at SCS, or you know someone at SCS, or you feel like listening to music while jealously eyeing other people's hot dogs, then you should mark your calendar for the 25th.

    • Report from the Underground - 09/17/02 - Ben

Hey all! The show was great! Not even a broken bass drum head can keep down The Girls! In other news, we'll be performing at a battle of the bands this friday at 8pm. It's at the Underground, and we'll post more as we find out. Also, we were interviewed by the Tartan, our shcool's newspaper! Read the article, or if you want an extra dose of hilarity, read the unedited transcript!

    • New show, new CD - 09/09/02 - Ben

Well, lots to tell you about in this update. First off, The Girls will be playing a show at the CMU Underground Saturday the 14th at 8pm with The Pittsburgh Steel Company. Note that the show is a Saturday night, so you have no excuse to not show up. You can even have dinner while you listen. Next up on the list is that we finally have a buyable version of the Nuts About You EP available. You can even use credit cards. There will be order forms available at our shows if you want a discounted price! Lastly, The Girls are down to four members, but that won't hold us back! We're still prepared to assault your senses with an overwhelming torrent of music, whever we can.

    • Happy New Year-ish - 08/19/02 - Ben

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the new year! That's right, as you read this The Girls are returning from their mountain retreats refreshed and ready to focus their meditative energy on rock. In but days they will assemble once more, and continue their quest for sonic satisfaction. This new year should bring more shows, more songs, and more studio time, so keep checking this page to find out when you will have an opportunity to be serenaded by The Girls!

    • Heavyweight - 05/31/02 - Ben

Round 1 - Fight! Problems, off the new Nuts About You EP, is up for judgment at crackerbox.net - check it out!

    • This is not an update - 05/21/02 - Ben

Well, everybody's going home for the summer, but that doesn't mean nothing new here... everybody's thinking about the band from home, and I'm sure we'll get some little demos and stuff up here... and then when fall rolls around we'll reconstitute into industrial-strength rock.

    • One EP down… - 05/07/02 - Ben

The Nuts About You EP is done, at least in concept. Now to start mass manufacture. You should get yours before we run out.

    • The mixing adventure continues - 05/06/02 - Ben

3 done (ish?), 3 to go, recording more vocals today. More guitars than you can imagine. And lyrics.

    • The mathematics of rock - 05/01/02 - Ben

"One all-nighter" + "Studio tracks" = "The number of tracks yet to be produced" - 1.

  • April 2002

    • Standby… - 04/26/02 - Ben

Once again we redefine "technical difficulties". Fear not - there's more to come. The EP nears?

    • Battle of the Bands - 04/24/02 - Ben

We got the email from the organizers of the Battle of the Bands: the show will be from 8:00pm to 10:00pm in the CMU Underground. We will be going on at 8:30, and off by 8:45. Not much, but we'll squeeze what we can from it. It should be a good show, if only to watch panicked musicians try to set up their stuff, soundcheck, play, and haul off the stage in 15 minutes. Here's the list of bands playing:

      8:00 - 8:15 ODI
      8:15 - 8:30 Cardinal Purple
      8:30 - 8:45 The Girls
      8:45 - 9:00 Clayton Merrell
      9:00 - 9:15 Underscore
      9:15 - 9:30 Miroslav
      9:30 - 9:45 Double Knock Out
      9:45 - 10:00 Darin Srivisal

I don't know all of these bands, but the ones I do know rock, so everybody should come on over and watch all of them!

    • Preliminary - 04/21/02 - Ben

We still don't know what time the Battle of the Bands will be, but Filler and a really good electronic band (whose name I spontaneously forget, it's long) will be playing, so we promise you a good show.

    • Pre-Preliminary - 04/16/02 - Ben

We will be playing at a battle of the bands at the CMU Underground on April 26th... stay tuned for time!

  • March 2002

    • Pic-a-tures - 03/28/02 - Ben

We took some pictures and have posted them... see what we look like in focus!

    • Hello - 03/25/02 - Ben

Welcome to The Girls' interim website. This site will provide information and content about The Girls until we get the time to make a real web site…
